  • Respond to calls for service; handles citizen complaints, problem solving, making custodial arrests, and issuing summons;
  • Knowledge of state law and local ordinance;
  • Ability to drive and operate emergency vehicles;
  • Ability to handle volatile persons, defend self and others, and testify;
  • Investigate reports of crime, interview victims, suspects and others involved, collect evidence, package cases for prosecution;
  • Complete paperwork, reports and case management, and training;
  • Patrol city streets, neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and conducts traffic enforcement and issue citations; and
  • Knowledge of city geography
The successful candidate will have an Associate’s Degree, have completed law enforcement skills program, and be licensed, or eligible to be POST licensed by early 2024. QUICK FACTS

CITY GOVERNMENT
Oakdale operates under a Council-Administrator form of government with a mayor and four council member. City Council is responsible for establishing policy, adopting the annual budget, and establishing the tax levy. The City has an annual budget of approximately $28.5 million which includes all funds, special revenues and debt service. The City has an Aa1 credit rating. Oakdale employs approximately 135 regular staff.COMMUNITY PROFILE
Oakdale continues to grow in both population and diversity. According to the 2020 census, Oakdale saw a 13 percent increase in the number of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) residents who make up 33.9 percent of the population. The City continues to support affordable housing developments for people of all ages and backgrounds. Current and future development includes additional senior living facilities and mixed housing types such as apartments, rental villasand single-family homes. Willowbrooke is a 208-acre site expected to add 1,400 mixed housing units along with parks, open space and a pedestrian network.BUSINESS AND DEVELOPMENTOakdale is home to over 625 businesses providing commercial, industrial, retail, dining, entertainment and professional services. Current residential projects have spurred business, commercial and retail development throughout the City. Construction is underway for the METRO Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a 10-mile bus-only lane along Interstate 94 that will connect St. Paul, Maplewood, Landfall, Oakdale and Woodbury. Development at the Gold Line Helmo station will add office space, retail and restaurants, a park-and-ride and over 700 housing units. The METRO Gold Line BRT has an anticipated 2025 completion date and is expected to attract additional businesses to Oakdale.
